How to read a South Indian chart

South Indian Chart

South Indian Chart

In this square chart the 12 zodiacal signs (known as Rashis in Sanskrit) are always in the same squares. The Dual signs are in the four corners. Pisces is always in the upper left hand corner, followed directly by Aries, then Taurus, and Gemini in the upper right hand corner. Virgo is in the lower right hand corner, Sagittarius in the lower left. The signs and houses are read clockwise around the zodiac. The Ascendant can be in any one of these 12 signs, and the planets  distributed according to where they are in the heavens.  All South Indian charts are read like this, and the birth chart is typically shown to the left or above the Navamsha (the 9th harmonic chart.)

How to read a North Indian chart

This chart is in the shape of a yantra (a mystical diagram), with diamond-shaped houses. The Ascendant (known as the Lagna in Sanskrit) is always located at the top central position of the chart. The houses are read counter-clockwise from the Ascendant. In this diagram, H2 indicates the 2nd house,   H3 the 3rd house, and so on. The arrows indicate the direction in which the houses are read. Since the Lagna is always set for this format, the typical North Indian chart will have numbers in each house to show what sign of the zodiac resides in that house. The zodiacal sign that is rising is indicated by a number from 1 to 12: Number 1 is Aries, 2 is Taurus, 3 is Gemini, etc. through each of the 12 houses. Thus, if number 3 is in the Lagna, Gemini is rising and is assigned to House 1, Cancer to House 2, Leo to House 3. All North Indian charts are read like this, and the birth chart is typically shown to the left or above the Navamsha, the 9th harmonic chart.

Glenn Greenwald Challenges Mainstream Media Censorship

By Edith Hathaway © 2020

Glenn Greenwald

Censorship once mocked in the West as prevalent only in totalitarian nations is now the norm in the U.S. today. Real investigative journalism requires courage and independence to report the truth, and how this truth corresponds to reality. It is a very rare phenomenon in today’s world of mainstream journalism and social media.

In this context, investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald is a rare phenomenon, and his resignation on Oct. 29, 2020 from a publication he co-founded in 2013 and launched in Feb. 2014 (The Intercept) is a landmark event. Continue reading

The 2020 U.S. Presidential Election: A Contemporary Morality Play – Part 1

Election year 2020, more so than any election year in at least 60 years, is marked by overriding themes so huge that they almost dwarf the presidential candidates themselves, who become more like allegorical figures out of a Medieval Morality Play.  But this is a Contemporary Morality Play with very high stakes politically, economically and socially.  For this reason I have concentrated on those larger themes to date in making my election predictions.   In Oct. 2019 at a public lecture in Dallas I first predicted that Donald Trump would be re-elected President of the United States.  Though no opposing candidate had yet been chosen, I made my case, and I still stand by it. The 2020 U.S. Presidential Election: A Contemporary Morality Play – Part 2

In my studies of American presidential elections held within a few months of the JU-SA conjunctions, notably when both the election and inauguration occurs close to the conjunction date, I have observed that that president is elevated and becomes more important in U.S. history, whether deserved or not.  They play a major role historically.  Here is from my book, In Search of Destiny, 2012, p. 40: Continue reading

Astrology and the Individual: An Astrologer Looks at the Rise of Marxism & Postmodernism

In natal astrology and the study of the birth chart of an individual, astrologers develop a deep understanding that we are looking at the specific destiny of an individual, and that that individual will have a destiny that is not going to be equal to all others in respect to abilities, health, wealth, status, education, marriage, or relationships.  Nor do we invent that a planet or zodiacal sign suddenly has new meaning and/or gender assignment because we reject previous traditional knowledge on the subject, as in Postmodernism, which rejects previous universalist ideas of objective reality, morality, truth, human nature, reason, science, language, and social progress.  Postmodernism rejects Marxism and Christianity, among others in a long list of what it considers failed meta-narratives. But what may unite Marxism and Postmodernism is an ever expanding list of grievances, even if not the same exact list. Continue reading

Coronavirus – The Bigger Picture & Time-Lines

The year 2020 was always the target year, both politically and astrologically.  The  Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Dec. 2020 highlights an astrological target year, and with it many non-astrological factors that can also be described by the planets.  When the JU-SA conjunctions started to dominate in sidereal EARTH signs, from Sept. 9, 1921, the shift began from the previous FIRE period that had featured the power of both religion and the nation-state. In the EARTH period (1921-2199), businesses, corporate conglomerates, industrialists and bankers would gain increasing power over nations and their policies. Continue reading

Coronavirus – War Against “the Invisible Enemy”

By Edith Hathaway © 2020

The last time we fought “the Invisible Enemy” – in real and also astrological terms –  was in Sept. 2001, with the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and elsewhere.  This time a public health crisis is affecting almost all nations in the world, most of which are currently on lockdown.  Again as in 2001, international trade  and travel are radically disrupted, this time to an unprecedented degree, at least from mid-March 2020 onward. Most schools, universities, and businesses were ordered to close through April 30th at a minimum. Other businesses require staff to work from home.  Continue reading

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brexit – Finally!

“My chances of being PM are about as good as the chances of finding Elvis on Mars, or my being reincarnated as an olive.”   Boris Johnson (age 40), The Independent, 2004.

And yet on July 24, 2019 Boris Johnson did become U.K. Prime Minister (at age 55), with his mandate assured in a nationwide election five months later.  Vedic astrology could have told us that Johnson would be greatly elevated in the public sphere within a few months before or after Sept. 9, 2016. This date marked the start of his 16-year Mercury Dasha (a planetary period) and a phenomenally successful period in his life.  Continue reading

Jupiter-Saturn 2020: The Tipping Point

By Edith Hathaway © 2019

Many arenas of life are sweeping to a tipping point in Dec. 2020.  As we approach this tipping point, the excesses or weaknesses of any ideology become more obvious, as if they are ready to either explode or break.  Though many arenas are in play, among the most prominent is the battle between Nationalism and Globalism, with Nationalism and issues of national sovereignty generally supported by the Right, and Globalism and One World Government generally supported by the Left. December 2019: Solar Eclipse & a Planetary Conclave in Sagittarius

By Edith Hathaway © 2019

December 2019 brings some extra acceleration and intensity due to eclipses on Dec. 26, 2019 and Jan. 10, 2020. They occur at 9:59 Sagittarius and 25:52 Gemini, respectively.  (All planetary positions are sidereal zodiac/Lahiri ayanamsha.)  In addition, we have a Sagittarian focus for nearly eight weeks. This includes the entire month of Dec. 2019 and from Nov. 21, 2019 to Jan. 12, 2020.  Continue reading

Immigration – the Defining Issue of the 2020 U.S. Election. Part 1

Part 1: Immigration – Left and Right

By Edith Hathaway © 2019

“It’s a Republic, if you can keep it.”   Benjamin Franklin, 1789

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, abundance, law, justice and religion, while Saturn is the planet of constriction, discipline, limits, borders and rules – especially for marriage, families, and societies. Saturn is more concerned with tradition, material security and safety.  In the planetary hierarchy, the teaching is that rules are needed in the midst of expansion and prosperity.   Continue reading

Immigration – the Defining Issue of the 2020 U.S. Election. Part 2

PART 2: WHO WINS THE IMMIGRATION BATTLE?

By Edith Hathaway © 2019

WHY GLOBALISM MAY FAIL IN THE EARTH PERIOD FROM 2020

The next U.S. Presidential Election will hinge on who wins the battle between Globalism and Nationalism.  It has now become a very heated battle, especially in the U.S., where President Trump is leading the fight for Nationalists, and the Globalists are mostly Democrats who are firmly supported by the United Nations.  Continue reading

Spies, Propaganda, Censorship & the Origins of the Trump-Russia Collusion Investigation

By Edith Hathaway © 2019

This is not breaking news. It has been out there in independent media for several years, but you may not have heard it.  The conspiracy against Donald Trump began from at least 2015 onward and used the combined powers of the DOJ (U.S. Dept. of Justice), the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), the NSA (National Security Agency), and the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) to run a counterintelligence operation against a presidential candidate, also using foreign intelligence agencies.  Their allies were the leftist mainstream media, also known as the DNC (Democratic National Committee) Media Complex.  But even earlier, from 2012 onward, the Obama administration spied on its political opponents through illegal access to the NSA data base.  Continue reading

Jussie Smollett – Act 2

By Edith Hathaway ©2019

On Tues. March 26, 2019 all criminal charges against the actor Jussie Smollett were suddenly and mysteriously dropped and the case sealed by Cook County Attorney General Kim Foxx. This was for his alleged hate crime hoax on Jan. 29, 2019. Though she had recused herself in the case on Feb. 19, 2019, Foxx now says she had not really done so.  The sequence is unprecedented due to the prior Grand Jury indictment of Jussie Smollett with 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for making a false police report. The indictment was based on only a portion of the large body of evidence presented by the Chicago Police Department. Continue reading

Jussie Smollett – Hate Crime Hoax in Chicago

By Edith Hathaway © 2019

Jussie Smollett, the popular American TV actor and singer, was charged on Feb. 21, 2019 with the felony of filing a false police report. He faces the possibility of up to 3 years in prison for an alleged hate crime that Chicago Police now says he himself choreographed.  His bond was set at $100,000, and upon paying a $10,000 bond he was released from police custody the same day, with a court date set for March 14, 2019.  In spite of overwhelming physical evidence and testimony, evidence from surveillance cameras as well as credit card, bank, phone, and text records from Smollett and the two men he hired and rehearsed to do the deed, Smollett continues to plead innocent of any wrongdoing. The U.S.-China Trade War & Related Topics

By Edith Hathaway ©2018

The Trade War between the United States, China and other top economy nations can be studied from various angles and over shorter and longer periods of time to better understand it.  And since the U.S. and China are by far the world’s two largest economies, any trade disputes between them have the largest ramifications.  We will cover this topic both in the short term (2018-2020) and the longer term (1961-2080). As we shall see also, trade wars and disputes share many of the same issues with immigration.  Continue reading

Brett Kavanaugh and the Run-up to the Last Close Pluto Station opposite the USA Sun (3° orb)

by Edith Hathaway © 2018

“If you vote no – you’re legitimizing the most despicable thing I have ever seen in my time in politics,” said a furious Senator Lindsay Graham to Republican colleagues at Brett Kavanaugh’s Judicial Committee hearing Sept. 27, 2018, also dubbed the Sexual Assault Hearing.  On their side, Democrats decided the hearing was also despicable, but for totally different reasons.  Some of this was echoed in the T-shirts of battling supporters outside the Dirksen Senate Office building that morning, with a much admired anti-Kavanaugh T-shirt reading “Men are Trash” and a pro-Kavanaugh T-shirt reading “I Stand with Brett.”  Continue reading

Peter Strzok – Update

Peter Strzok (pronounced “strock”) was the lead FBI investigator in the Mueller probe into both Hillary Clinton’s emails and the Trump-Russia collusion, 2015 -2017.  Last month I wrote about The Inspector General’s Report, June 14, 2018 and the critical role Strzok played in both of these high profile investigations.   He appeared before Congressional hearings June 27, 2018 (behind-closed-doors) and July 12, 2018 (televised).  Both sessions endured for over 10 hours, but the latter received particular notoriety.  This story is not over yet.  Continue reading

More Investigation around the 2016 U.S. Election: The Inspector General’s Report, June 14, 2018

by Edith Hathaway © 2018

The IG Report: Background

“On July 10, 2015, the FBI Counterintelligence Division opened a criminal investigation [on Hillary Clinton’s emails] in response to the 811 referral from the IC IG [Office of the Intelligence Community Inspector General].[i]  Although only a small percentage of 811 referrals result in criminal investigations, witnesses told the OIG [Office of the Inspector General] that a criminal investigation was necessary to determine the extent of classified information on former Secretary Clinton’s private server, who was responsible for introducing the information into an unclassified system, and why it was placed there. The FBI gave the investigation the code name ‘Midyear Exam’…” Continue reading

Russiagate Showdown – 13 Russians Indicted

By Edith Hathaway © 2018

On Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at 1:30 pm EST, the U.S. Dept. of Justice held an important press conference. Mainstream media called it a decisive turning point in the findings of an 18-month long federal investigation into President Trump’s possible collusion with Russia to affect the outcome of the 2016 U.S. Presidential election – a topic widely known as “Russiagate.” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein presided at the event.  The FBI-led investigation has been ongoing since late July 2016, initially under Special Counsel James Comey, FBI Director (2013-2017), and continuing under Robert Mueller, FBI director (2001-2013). Trump fired Comey as FBI Director May 9, 2017, and 8 days later Mueller was appointed Special Counsel.  He was not present at the Feb. 16, 2018 press conference. Continue reading

Chakrapani Ullal

Chakrapani Ullal has been called the “father of Vedic astrology in the Western world.” A great Vedic astrologer who came to the U.S. from South India in 1979, he previously studied law and business in India, having learned Vedic astrology from a young age at the feet of his father and grandfather. He first became widely known internationally as the astrologer for Swami Muktananda, who invited him to come to the US in 1979. Continue reading
