by Edith Hathaway © 2015

The dramatic week of the terrorist attacks in Paris on the Charlie Hebdo offices and the Kosher grocery store, Jan. 7‐15, 2015, closely coincided with eight days during which Mercury and Venus were in a Planetary War, with Venus (planet of politics) winning over Mercury (planet of speech) due to its superior brightness. This Planetary War ran from Thurs. Jan. 8th at 4:23 am (Paris time) to Jan. 15th at 2:56 pm – the day the first issue of Charlie Hebdo was released since the office shooting.  At mid‐day Jan. 7th tr. Mercury and Venus were within 1 degree 10 minutes of arc of each other. Continue reading

Corporate Conglomerates vs. Nation States: Which Nations will Survive and Thrive?

Copyright © 2010 by Edith Hathaway

“There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM and ITT and AT & T and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. The world is a business … and there is not a single law on the books to stop them !” [1]

Paddy Chayefsky,  1974

INTRODUCTION: Nearly 50 years ago, the world emerged out of an era of excessive nationalism and religious zeal into one of increasing dominance of corporate conglomerates over nation-states, even if the old themes still linger and provide convenient reasons for justifying wars and conflicts. Jupiter & Saturn: Planets of Dharma & Karma

by Edith Hathaway       (Copyright © 2007, Revised 2008)

In the Upanishads of ancient India, the jewel of consciousness is seen to manifest itself in “all that shines: the sun, moon, fire, and speech.” The brightest lights in the sky are earth’s key luminaries. What we should be doing here, the waxing and waning energy of life itself can be seen in the Sun and Moon and their interactions with each other. Human aspiration is always linked to them, as well as to fire and speech. The nature of Dharma is also that of fire. It governs the Ascendant – the beginning of life. Dharma is always present, but becomes more powerful as we understand how our true nature shows a purpose for being here and receiving this light in its various forms. Continue reading

Just a week prior to the terrorist attack on New York City and Washington, D.C. September 11, 2001, a writer in Time magazine offered the following remark (in an article on US Secretary of State Colin Powell): “The United States is at one of its rare moments in history where it can afford to shape the world.” But other voices were echoing far different sentiments about the American ethos: “There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM and ITT and AT & T and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. The world is a business … and there is not a single law on the books to stop them !” [1] Continue reading

GATT and WTO are Born

Another major turning point in the globalization process was the creation of the WTO (the World Trade Organization). This came about through the passage of GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs). Though GATT was in formulation stages since 1947, it was the so- called “Uruguay Round of GATT” that created the WTO. This occurred when the U.S. Congress and Senate passed this legislation on December 1, 1994. Using 12 noon for Washington DC, since there is no exact time, the Ascendant is 1:21 Aquarius. What is Astrology? What is the Essence of Astrology?

COMMENTS ON VEDIC ASTROLOGY

In the Vedic tradition of India, astrology is the 6th limb of the Vedas, each limb called a Vedanga. Jyotish is the Sanskrit word for Vedic astrology. It means literally: “science of light.” It is the remover of the darkness of ignorance, also the eye of divine knowledge that is considered pure, supreme, and exalted. Not surprisingly, Jyotish is considered “the eye of the Vedas.” Its value is in giving us the capacity to see the past, present, and future. Continue reading
